IF YOU FIND AN INJURED OWL OR BIRD OF PREY
The most important thing to remember is that this is a wild Bird of Prey and although it may be sick or injured and need help it will be very frightened of you and you should approach the bird very calmly and quietly.
SHOCK IS THE BIGGEST CAUSE OF DEATH.
All Birds of Prey have very sharp talons and will use them when frightened so be careful.
DO NOT USE YOUR BARE HANDS.
Put the Bird in a secure box, if you do not have a box wrap the Bird in a towel or cloth, even your coat, making sure that there is ventilation, do not handle it to much, this will stress the Bird even more. Putting it somewhere quiet, dark and warm will help keep it calm. Do not let all your friends and neighbours look at it.
Do not try to feed the Bird or give it water it may need surgery. Most vets will treat wild animals/ birds free of charge so do not worry.
PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THE LOCATION WHERE IT WAS FOUND. THIS IS IMPORTANT. GET IT TO A VET OR YOUR LOCAL BIRD OF PREY /RAPTOR RESCUE. DO NOT TRY TO TREAT IT YOURSELF.
The most common causes of death and injury to Birds are, collisions with vehicles, drowning and ingesting poisons through the food chain.
